Note: You may wish to
skim the info below as there may be more valuable info in the text than
is shown in the Video below.
The Five (5) Kinds of Tweets
- Inane tweets
about what you are doing, e.g., "I'm
washing my hair."
- Seemingly
inane tweets which make
a point about something, or tie-into something
else: "I'm washing my
hair with Herbal Essences, the most popular shampoo on
the Internet: http://snurl.com/cie0c".
- Personal
tweets: "Ready
to head out and be with family - and Jack Bauer!" tweeted
by @chuckhester. Note: Shows you're human.
- Interesting
tweets (a la
Guy Kawasaki): "Photo
of a bucket of Owls - BuzzFeed - http://bit.ly/17UVTx"
- Valuable
Tweets: "Twitter
- Uses of Twitter vs Successful uses of Twitter - Links to
Case Studies http://is.gd/hzzP"
- Note: "Extra credit" for valuable tweets
which are interesting/intriguing
as well!

Business-to-Consumer definition.
- * Definition
of "Your People" (B2B):
Note: These people may be people connected to businesses which might be
likely to use/purchase your product or service, or be connected to
those who will.
- B2B:
Business-to-Business definition.
Elements of a Valuable Tweet
- Item of
Information which could be considered valuable
to your people:
- Something which updates
them in their business, industry, life, e.g., breaking news re: ______
(fill-in-the-blank).
- Something which helps
their business, industry, life, ,e.g, a tool, technique, or resource
that saves them effort, resources, or time.
- Something which educates
them in their business, industry, life.
- Valuable
insight: Your "take" on why the item of info is valuable (if you have room in
the 140 characters in a Twitter tweet).
- Source of the
information - Give credit to the original person/company
which originated the information.
- Link to Item
of Information: Shortened link to website, blog, podcast
where the info can be found.
Action Steps for Writing Valuable Tweets in Twitter
- Find a
valuable item of information.
- E.g., Read
blog feeds and/or listen
to podcasts (or search
podcasts).*
- Note: For the blogs,
you can just use Guy Kawasaki's Alltop.com
to find info - just screen
it for "valuable" info vs. merely "interesting"
random-type info.
- For podcasts,
you can search EveryZing.com
to search for podcast audio/video content.
- With Everyzing you can search for the actual
words/phrases used within the audio/video recordings! (See video below)
- * Note: Only 10-12 percent of people listen to podcasts,
so info you get from this source is usually pretty "cutting edge".
- Shorten
& Copy
web address (URL) where item of info is.
- Go to Twitter
& Paste
web address into box on your Twitter home page,
e.g., http://twitter.com/YourPage.
- Then in front of the link you just pasted into Twitter:
- Type (or copy) the valuable
item of info in your box on Twitter.
- Make a valuable
insight/observation about the item of info (if you have room).
- Cite the
source of the information, e.g., @chrisbrogan, for Chris
Brogan, "The blogger's blogger".
- Note: If you know their Twitter name you can use that
with an "@" in front, so the person will be sure to know about your
tweet (since they probably track tweets about/citing/quoting them and
their info).
- Click Update
in Twitter to send your tweet/post.
- That's
it (whew!)
