Getting around a web page quickly and easily will save you a lot of time and effort, not to mention making you a lot better at finding what you need.  Using some choice keyboard shortcuts as well as the Google Toolbar will have you finding things on web pages in no time. Also, the keyboard shortcuts work in almost all other documents you use on a daily basis (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) making you more efficient in almost everything you do on your computer.

How to Find text you are seeking (for Windows PCs)



1st Method (using Menus)


  1. Click on "Edit", then click on "Find on this Page"


  2. Key in the word or phrase you are seeking


  3. Hit Enter.




1st Method (Using Menus) - Alternative method using <Alt> Key


  1. Hit <Alt> + "E" key (to Edit) - To go to Menu & Edit


  2. Then hit the "F" key (to Find on this page)


  3. Key in the word or phrase you are seeking


  4. Hit Enter




2nd Method (using Keyboard Shortcuts)


  1. Hit <Ctrl> & "F" (for FIND on this page)


  2. Key in the word or phrase you are seeking


  3. Hit Enter


Note: <Ctrl> is the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard:
(below the Shift keys on a Windows PC keyboard)



Use "Sticky Keys" for Keyboard Shortcuts (like <Ctrl> & C) mentioned above


When using the keyboard shortcuts above you"ll need to use "sticky keys".
This means that you hold down the first key with one finger while placing your finger on the second key.

How to Find text you are seeking (for MACs)



1st Method (using Menus)


Go to the menu and under "EDIT", choose "F" for Find.


2nd Method (using Keyboard Shortcuts)


  1. <Command> & "F" (for FIND)


  2. Key in the word or phrase you are seeking


  3. Hit Enter


Note: <Command> is the "Command" (or "Apple") key on your keyboard:
(below & near the Shift keys on a MAC keyboard)

Request: Since I don't have a MAC, please let me know if there's a better way to describe how to Find text on web pages for MACs.  Please let me know and I'll include the info into this article and give you credit for it (thanks!).




How to Find text you are seeking (using the Google Toolbar)


Note: First you'll need to download the Google Toolbar and Install it.

There are 3 ways you can Find text you're seeking with the Google Toolbar:
  • Click on the right-pointing arrows (the chevron) at the right of the Toolbar, then use your mouse to click on Find:
    • Then Find in page (to Find all of the words you are seeking). 


    • Then Highlight all (to highlight all the words you are seeking).  


    • Then select the word you wish to find on the page (Note: The words in the list are from the Google search that brought you to the web page you're on.





How to Move to the Top or Bottom of a Web page


Similar to Method #2 above you hit:

<Ctrl> + <Home> to move to the Top of the Screen

<Ctrl> + <End> to move to the Bottom of the Screen
