As mentioned last week, we've added a brand
new department to the website- Quick Power Tips. The purpose of Quick Power Tips is to give
your website an immediate boost in traffic and conversions. By
implementing these simple tips, you should see more visitors coming to
your site, staying longer and turning into customers.
This week we've added more Quick Power Tips
to help you.
Tip of the Week
Got
Your Facebook Fan Page Vanity Address Yet? - There's Still Time, but
does Your Page Qualify?
In our June 16, 2009 Tip of the
Week on "Increasing Your Online
Visability" we mentioned that there would be an
opportunity for those with Facebook Fan Pages to obtain custom
usernames ("vanity" web addresses). For small businesses with less than
1,000 fans that opportunity came on June 28th, 2009.
And you can still get your Fan Page at http://www.facebook.com/username/ if you qualify. The only problem is that
your Facebook Fan Page has to have a minimum of 100 fans to be
eligible. Unfortunately this left out many new/emerging
businesses.
Question: Will Facebook change this policy?
Answer: Probably not, because Facebook is doing this to prevent
cyber-squatting, so people won't grab other business's fan page names.

Registration for Facebook Pages With Under 1,000 Fans Opens TonightJune

- "Trust, but
Verify"...like Bing's (Windows Live) Local Listings did
In the same Tip of the
Week mentioned
above we showed you how you could sign-up for a no-cost business
listing at Bing's Webmaster Center. That was on June 16th,
2009.
However after creating the business listing, we were told that we'd
have to wait for a PIN number to activate it. Recently we
received the PIN # via...snail mail - yes, that's right, via the US
Postal Service! So we just activated our listing and it
should be up/live soon.
In any case, "where there's a will there's a way" and perhaps Facebook
could have created it's own method of verifying those registering for
Fan page URLs. This would have enabled many truly small businesses, or
those just starting to establish their footprint on the web, to have a
way to break-in and leverage the cachet of having their own "vanity
URL", allowing them to have equal parity with larger
companies/organizations on the web.
Thought for
the Week: How can your website/business/organization
create opportunities for your clients to participate and engage more
fully with your site or your org? Remember, "where there's a
will, there's a way."
