Background for Interview
- In early October, Karl was driving home from teaching the
Social Media Marketing class he co-teaches with Beverly Macy at UCLA Extension.
- Karl was listening to talk radio and the host was talking
about getting a group of people together to go and hear Kenny Loggins, who was playing at the Greek Theatre on October 2nd, 2009: href="http://bit.ly/GreekTheatre_Loggins-and-Messina" target="_top">http://bit.ly/GreekTheatre_Loggins-and-Messina .
- It was Karl's wife's (Milen's) birthday, so he thought
she'd enjoy going to the concert, since she's a huge Kenny Loggins fan.
- Later Karl emailed the talk show host, Richard Greene ( href="http://www.richardgreene.org/testimonials.htm"
target="_top">noted communication expert who advised Princess Diana on her presentations ), to ask about thedetails on purchasing the group tickets.
- Richard Greene emailed Karl back and said he'd acquired
some free tickets to the concert and had a pair for Karl and his wife.
- Richard noticed the href="http://bit.ly/1s1PCW" target="_top">e-signature
in Karl's email and asked about IncreaseOnlineProfits.com style="font-style: italic;">(just like it's supposed tohappen in eMarketing) .
- Richard said he felt a "synchronicity" about the mission of
our website (attractmore visitors, create more customers ) and the subject of Karl's UCLA Extension class (social media marketing), and asked Karl if he'd like to be the guest on his talk show style="font-style: italic;">...that night(!).
- Karl also mentioned the 90-second viral video that Rick and
he had put together: target="_top">TheSolutionMovie.com and Richard said, "Great, let's talk about that tonight too."
- Karl agreed to the interview, but the only problem was that
"TheSolutionMovie.com" wasn't a live link yet: The movie needed to be finalized, the domain name servers needed to be pointed to the right web address, and the files needed to be uploaded to the web...and all of this needed to be done by...thatnight(!) .
- In a flurry of perfectly coordinated activity, Rick and
Karl did a week's worth of configuration in just a few hours...just in time for the interview: The final files were uploaded just a couple of minutes before the interview began.
- At the next Social Media Marketing class, Karl put together
a PowerPoint presentation laying out the entire scenario and showing the process of how a viral video can come to life...just in time for an interview (or any other deadline): "Give(with no expectations)…and see what happens!" .
- The reason it's style="font-style: italic;">"Give...and see what happens!"
is that Karl was going to buy the tickets for his wife, Milen's, birthday but was given:
- 2 free concert tickets, and
- An interview on a nationally syndicated talk show style="font-style: italic;">(pretty cool!).
- Also, Rick and Karl told the story of style="font-style: italic;"> style="font-style: italic;">"Give (with no expectations)…and
see what happens!" in their weekly eNewsletter.
