Tip of the Week- 5 Free Reputation Monitoring Tools-
I've been reading a great book by Mitch Joel, "Six Pixels of Separation," which I highly recommend. In it, he discusses 5 free online tools that you should be using to monitor what people are saying about your brand, company, products or services. (He actually mentions 6, but Technorati Watchlists has been discontinued). The 5 tools are:
- RSS or news reader- Readers notify you when any website or blog you're interested in, has been updated. This eliminates the hassle of visiting numerous sites each day.The best are Google Reader, iGoogle, My Yahoo! and NetVibes.
- News Alerts- Lets you know in real time everything that is being said about you. Just input your search term such as your name, your company name, competitors etc. Google Alerts is one that Karl and I use.
- Blog Search- Blog searches allow you to monitor blogs for your search terms. 2 good blog search engines ares Google Blog Search and IceRocket.
- Search Engines- Use Google or Yahoo! or Microsoft Bing to see what the search engine results are for your company, product, etc. Here's a cool little trick: if you enter your website like this: link:www.yourwebsite.com in the Google search box, it will return a list of all the websites currently linking to you. Reciprocating back to a quality website is a great way to build a reputation.
- Google Trends and Facebook Lexicon- These tools let you compare your brand with others and also provide some market research by region, language, and related topics of interest.

Check out TheSolutionMovie.com, our 90 second video and please share the movie with anyone you feel might benefit (web-owners, bloggers, authors, job seekers, speakers and others) who would like to achieve greater success.
Watch it again to affirm your own decision to improve your website and online marketing efforts.
In the near future we'll be posting articles on the IOP site which show how you can make (or have made) a movie like this for your site too.
