Tip of the Week- Make Your Webpages Scannable
Here's a tip that doesn't cost you anything to put in place, but could make a huge difference to your bottom line: Make your webpages scannable.
When you and I go online we're searching for specific information. Unlike a newspaper or magazine, we can't "flip" through the Internet. And because there's so much information available, we want to be able to quickly choose what deserves our attention and what doesn't.
The only way to do that is to scan webpages. Even if a website has exactly the information that you and I want, if we can't discern that in a matter of seconds, we're off to the next website. Think about it, that's exactly what you and I do, and that's what our visitors do. What a shame to have your valuable content and information passed over, because visitors won't take the time to read it.
How can I make my webpages scannable?
- Use simple words, short sentences and short paragraphs
- Use headings, subheadings and bullets
- Cut your words in half and then cut them in half again
