The
Power of Email Marketing
I was listening to the
"Media Hacks" podcast
(http://bit.ly/arvGp4) last night at the gym and it was interesting to
hear that 2 out of 3 of the online and social
media marketing experts felt that "email
marketing is still far more effective than social media."
This mirrors what
we've said about email marketing: That it's currently
the best proven method of online marketing. The media hacks agree and
add that email marketing has also been the most effective method for
many years now.
These accolades for
email marketing are borne out by recent statistics
in eMarketer
(http://www.emarketer.com/):
- 86.5% of US
companies conduct regular e-mail marketing.*
- 69% of of US
Internet users check their personal email inboxes 4+
times a day (42% of these also use social media).**
This seems
counterintuitive given all that we've heard and hear
continually about social media and networking via all of the news
sources (online and offline). Certainly social media has had tremendous
growth lately and will have even more in the years to come.
But as of right now,
email is still "king" of effective eMarketing
methods.
And you might wonder,
what about young people? And the answer is: they
also use email.
Possible reasons:
Social sites send notifications via email.
Also, "media hack" panel-member Chris Penn stated that college
students have no problem using email, especially when they're applying
for grants/scholarships which use email for notifications.
